Hello again third graders. I just love working with you, watching you learn new things, and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g your brains like bubble gum when you meet up with a new challenge! Hopefully this unit on birds will have your thinkers churning!

Over the next few weeks - about three - we will learn about science and poetry (and a little art snuck in!) through a study of birds. We will use this book from the library:

You will also do research online, choose a favorite bird to get a library book about, and use some online videos. Anytime your instructions say to watch a video online, it will be saved on the "James" page of our website.

We will learn about a new bird each day. Your routine will be:

1. Read the section in your book about the next bird.

2. Open your "Music is Life" binder to the Language Arts section and do any worksheets and lessons assigned to that bird. Some worksheets will ask you to get the computer out and look things up.

3. Sometimes there will be a note from me saying we will work on a specific part of your work together, or together with the other children. Just skip those portions during your independent work session and I will tell you when it is time :)

Go ahead and get out the Bird book, flip through it and enjoy the pictures, and look through your binder to see what some of the worksheets will be like. If you are feeling energetic, you may do the first bird right now!

When you are done - come to me and we will feed the birds together.
